Discussion

This was the first spit (equal to the material in spit 011AD00048) of a silty clay layer (Munsell 10YR 3/3), excavated across the waterlogged area to the west of the spring pool. It was sealed by the sandy layer 011AD00057. At this level, no waterlogged material was recovered. The finds included an iron point and an Anglian pot sherd. Only two animal bones were found, one of which was a dog mandible.
